Psalm 62:5-12
People, trust in God all the time. Tell him all your problems. Because God is our protection.

6 weeks to go

We have added an extra 4 weeks onto the amount of time we have to prepare for this PCS. It's going to be a big one. We have to trust a group of movers to pack everything that we own into boxes and crates, and then load it onto a ship, and transport it all the way over to our new destination. As well as our vehicle, and then hope the most important things arrive un broken. That in itself has anxiety written all over it, and unfortunately, that's the easiest part. The hardest part? That will simply be getting a hold of all of our paperwork on time, deciding what we need in our suitcases and what we don't (a much more difficult decision with a toddler), getting our beloved Moose into all of his required Vet appointments and ready for travel, and then getting the 4 of us, and everything we will need for 2 months, onto that airplane. 6 weeks to go, and it never sounded so close.

6 weeks to go and I have started in the one room that I dread the most. Our bedroom. These extra four weeks are giving me more time to go through all of the meaningless junk we somehow accumulated in the 3 short years we have been married. Apparently, 3 years equals an endless supply of empty water bottles under the bed, about 85 holey and un worn t-shirts, 3 bags full of thrift store donations, and a whole lot of random Legos that my feet keep finding.

As excited as we are to get back to America and see our families, we are also thankful for these extra four weeks we've been given. It's extra time to spend with our friends, and prepare for our goodbyes. Extra time to travel and see the last minute things we haven't had the chance to yet. Extra time to prepare our 3 year old to leave his home, and his friends. And to explain to him that strangers are going to come and take all of his toys away in boxes.

6 weeks to go and our time is running short, but we are making the most of it.

Family Vacation in a Decent Sized Nutshell

It has been a crazy month in the Bunda house, as we have had family coming in and out for 4 weeks straight. First my grandma came and spent two weeks with us while we went to different places in Germany and spent a long weekend in Paris. Dylan really loved having her around! It's always nice to be able to show family where you are living and what you are doing (in a sense anyway, seeing as how we weren't really on our normal routine or schedule). The weather was awful the entire time she was here, rain and cold every single day. But we made the most of it.

In Paris we saw all the main sights, and she went up the Eiffel Tower. Dylan and I didn't go with her, because it was too cold for him up there. We tried but turned around on the second floor. He was happy once we got back on the ground though. We took a bus tour and got to see the whole city, and walked some of the Champs-Élysées, the longest avenue in the world. During her trip we also went to Heidelberg and saw the castle, did some shopping and had a nice lunch. We went to Worms and saw the cathedral, and Rudeshiem, a huge tourist area for shopping.

The very next morning after she left, my sister in law arrived, followed by my mother in law and her husband. They brought the Arizona sun with them, and things stayed nice and sunny the rest of the trip. Getting them from the airport was chaos all on its own. There were riots going on at the airport and they weren't letting anyone in at all, leaving everyone flying in to visit family walking through the gate to no one waiting for them, and not knowing where to go. We spent a good 45 minutes trying to squint between all the police officers to see if we could see them. FINALLY I caught glimpse of them through a small crack in between two of the uniformed men, and shouted for them as loud as I could followed by jumping. It worked.

But the crazy of the airport was only the beginning of chaos, as the next two weeks would be much more fast paced than the previous two. We spent the first day in Frankfurt taking in some local sights, and catching up. The next day included everyone going to Trier, with me staying behind to get things ready for the trip the next day. We woke up early and headed to Paris. It was my 3rd time being in the city, so it was easy to navigate where to go via the metro system, and we got to see pretty much everything we wanted to. We even saw the Eiffel Tower at night, and on the hour for the sparkling, which I hadn't gotten a chance to do yet. We also took the lift to the top and took advantage of the champagne bar, the view was absolutely beautiful at sunset. Driving through Paris caused extreme
stress in all of us, so we were actually relieved to get to our next destination, the champagne region of France. Here we stopped for a tour of the Moèt and Chandon champagne cellar. This is where all Dom Perignon comes from as well.

Brugge, Belgium was our next stop, and it was BEAUTIFUL. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was relaxing and it was much more peaceful than Paris was. We walked through the market square, had drinks with the cultural sights in view, and climbed to the top of the famous Belfry where we got to watch the bells ring first hand, and get a view of Brugge from up top. There are canals the run all over the city, which adds to the atmosphere. We took a canal ride, shopped for Belgian lace and chocolate, and had dinner at a local restaurant to try finnish stew, a famous specialty in Belgium. Unfortunately we only had one full day here, since we arrived so late the day before. But we managed to squeeze in a tour of the brewery before our next stop, Amsterdam.

I think Amsterdam was most of our favorite place. It was amazing. Just as beautiful as Brugge with all the canals running through, especially when they became lit up at night. It was a huge city, with almost NO vehicles, only bicycles. Hundreds of bikes everywhere, things are so close together you don't need a car. We walked pretty much everywhere, and got to take in a lot of the city. We saw the Anne Frank house that has now been turned into a museum, which was really cool to see. We took another canal ride, walked through all the crazy shops that accentuate what Amsterdam is most famous for, sex and marijuana, and took a guided tour of the Red Light District. Dylan of course had to come with, but he stayed in the stroller with a jacket draped over it and a movie so he couldn't see, because there is a whole lot of naked in this area. On the tour we learned exactly how it works, saw all the windows, (and the women working them), and also got to talk to a previous prostitute and ask questions. It sounds like a ton of crazy, but that's not all Amsterdam is about. It really is a beautiful city with a lot to see and do. On the way to our next stop, we spent some time at the beach, which connects to the North Sea.

On our way back to Germany we made one more stop in Cologne, and saw the gothic cathedral, or Kòlner Dom. We walked around, did some shopping, and pretty much took it easy for the day. I think we were all pretty relieved to make it home after our 10 day excursion. We took a day to rest up before waking up at 4:30am to get on a tour bus that took us to a nice castle on the Rhine River. Here we got to tour the castle, have a brandy tasting, take a 2 hour cruise down the Rhine, have lunch at a local German restaurant, have another wine tasting, take a cable car ride through the vineyards and do some shopping.

We only had one more day with everyone, so we spent it getting things together at home and doing some shopping for final souvenirs. It was a very busy two weeks but we had such a great time!! We loved getting to share all these awesome places with our families and will miss them all. Luckily we only said goodbye for a few months this time, as our tour here is coming to an end, and we now have less than 3 months left. Our leaving here is going to be bitter sweet, maybe even a little more bitter than sweet, but for now we are enjoying it while we can. We want to thank our family members who came and spent this time with us, we created so many memories.

Dylan turns 3

Today was a big day in our house, because our one and only kiddo turned 3 years old! Its hard to believe how quickly the time has passed, you never realize how short life is until you become a parent. Since most of Dylans friends have either PCS'd back stateside, or arent in his age group, we decided against a party this year. It was too difficult trying to plan activites for a group of kids with such diverse ages, and I didnt want Dylan left out of any of the games at his own party, so instead we opted for a day of fun with just us. Of course I had to get a "last 2 year old picture" in before bed time the night before.

Excuse me while I go and grab a tissue. In the morning when he woke up he hung out in bed with mommy and daddy for a while before we got up and made a big breakfast for him. His favorite - pancakes! Dylan can usually eat his weight in pancakes and sausage, he does not mess around when it comes to breakfast.
Then daddy took him to play at a big indoor play land, while I stayed home and baked him a quick cake and got his presents set up for when he came home. He always has a ton of fun going, especially with his daddy, who has just as much fun as he does! They didnt take the camera with them so I dont have pictures of them playing together, but i did manage to catch one before they walked out the door. You'll notice throughout the blog that Dylan has a hard time keeping his eyes open when the flash goes off. By the time they got back he was exhausted, but he woke right up when he saw all his presents. I dont think he gets why he got gifts, but he got them and thats all he cared about!

I wish I could show all of his gifts because they are all awesome, but there just isnt enough room or patience for that! This site can be difficult when dealing with pictures. Later on after he rested, he had a couple of friends help sing happy birthday to him and have some cake and ice cream.

Chad and I also started a new tradition, instead of giving him a birthday card, we got him a new book and wrote our messages to him on the inside with the age he was turning. Cant wait to do this every year and watch our love grow with his age! I have always been a literature junky, and he loves reading, so we thought this was a great way for him to not only have a book collection that grows with him, but to always be reminded of how much he means to us.

Needless to say Dylan had a great birthday, and even though he couldnt have everyone he loves here with him to celebrate, he still felt love from everyone who sent it! Dylan is very blessed to have so many people who love and care for him even though he is countries away. He says thank you to each and every person who wished him a happy birthday! And so do Chad and I!

Happy Birthday Dylan!!

The Bunda Blues

Dylan and I have been down for the count this week, as we both got a nasty cough, which turned into a cold after a few days. We are still waiting for it to pass so its been a pretty uneventful time for us. Luckily I have probably the best husband out there who has picked up pretty much all of the cleaning and cooking so that we were able to snuggle on the couch together and be huge babies.

I'm thinking it was a good time to catch it though, because I have no desire to go out into the blustery cold that came this week. The below picture is from a couple of days ago, since then we've gotten more snow, and black ice on the roads.

Dylan's put his time to great use through. He's learned his shapes (the ones mom is able to draw decently), colors, more numbers, and we're currently working on sight seeing all the letters in the alphabet.

We also got a chance to play with one of his Christmas presents from his grandma and grandpa Bunda, the Elefun game! Probably one of his favorite things right now. This is the first time he's used it as we kept forgetting to get the right kind of batteries for it, but as you can probably tell he had a blast. Even though he's cooped up and sick, he still always has a smile on. Although I did promise him a day of fun at Yabadoo (local indoor play place) as soon as we are over this thing.

All in all it's been a good week here as far as family time goes, hope everyone in Germany is staying warm!

My 2.5 year old teenager

I have suddenly entered an interesting stage of parenthood. One that I didn't think I would have to deal with for at least a few more years. Just goes to show how much this newer mommy knows. My son is now almost 3, going on 14. He has the arm crossing and back talking down to a T, and he doesn't even have a full vocabulary yet.

Ive come to realize that arguing with a toddler is a lot like arguing with someone who is severely intoxicated. He does a lot of word slurring, and clearly has no idea what REALLY is going on in a situation where I'm telling him to do something. For example, I say "Dylan why don't you sit down and finish your cookie at the table". His response is usually something like "I don't have a table!!!!", when he's sanding right next to one. And its usually at a volume that is much higher than needed in a living room. Then he turns his back to you, crosses his arms and makes the "humph" sound, just to make sure you know he isn't happy with you.

He is also somewhat bipolar. One minute he's playing with his toys, and the next he turns his back and doesn't want to speak to you. Below is a picture I took earlier of him with a new toy he got from his grandparents, and as soon as he saw the camera he did his signature move.

Yea.. he's an angel. I'm starting to believe people when they say the third year is actually worse than terrible twos. Luckily he does most of his acting out at home, and not in public. I always feel bad for parents when I see their kids throwing tantrums on the floor of a restaurant or grocery store. And then I feel worse when the kids realize what "we're going to the bathroom" ACTUALLY means. But then it's quiet again and I get over it. Circle of life.

He's sort of like the sour patch kids. You know, first they're sour then they're sweet or something like that. Anyways. Life goes on, hakuna matata, c'est la vie, and all those other cliche things you'd say in a crummy situation when you want to pretend to be an optimist.

It really is more funny than anything since he's so small. Mostly because half of the time when he yells at me I have no idea what he's saying. Here's hoping all you other mommies are laughing as much as I am these days.

Everything does NOT happen for a reason

You know that saying "everything happens for a reason"? I'm sure your mom told you that when your puppy ran away or your best friend told you that when your boyfriend dumped you for that blonde girl, or even when you got let go from your job because they weren't getting enough business. Well people, I am here to tell you that it's all a load of crap.

I decided to take a break from my usual boring blog topics and point out a few things that catch my attention. Number one, Americas huge debt problem. I've seen a lot of social networking posts lately (including my own) about all these people abusing the system and collecting welfare and all that good stuff that us tax payers have to make up for every year. And then I also see these people talking about how everything happens for a reason and if God wants me to have a job I'll end up with a job. Wrong. Some seem to forget that God allows us to choose our own paths in life. We CHOOSE to follow or not to follow Him, therefor we choose what we do each and every day. I failed my midterm but its ok because everything happens for a reason. Wrong. Get off Pinterest and study. I got fired but its okay because everything happens for a reason. Wrong. Leave your cell phone at home and do your job. My boyfriend cheated on me but its okay because everything happens for a reason. Wrong! Your boyfriend (or girlfriend) really is just a tool bag! Maybe if we started teaching our children these days to take responsibility for their actions instead of pushing it off and assuring them it will all work out, we'd have less people growing up to take advantage of this great nation and its assets.

Everything does not just FLOW in life, you have to steer it. So stop quoting Marilyn Monroe and learn how to sail. Rant over.

Mommys' baby boy

No matter where we go or what we do, my favorite part of a night out is always picking Dylan up from the sitter. There is no better feeling than seeing your babys face light up when you walk into the room and he knows he's going home. That "Hi mommy!" is what gets me through every single day, every single night, and every single stressful hour I have. Even when my hours are stressful because of him.

People always ask me when Chad and I are going to have another one. I honestly can't imagine giving up my Dylan time right now! I love that he is my only baby. I love that I don't have to share my time equally, that I can spend all my energy making sure I teach him how to be a respectful boy. How to love animals and love other people. How to say please and thank you and how to know when to say he is sorry.

The rate that he is learning right now is unbelievable, every day a new sentence or a new emotion identified. He picks up on things so easily. The other night Chad hid his dvd player because he was messing with it instead of going to sleep. I looked EVERYWHERE for it, and Dylan realized what I was looking for and was able to point out to me wich cabinet high above my head it was in. I am amazed by him every single day!

This blog quickly went from being about motherhood to being about our travels and experiences here in Europe, but my life still completely revolves around him. No matter what awesome things we get to see or do or experience, there is NO more wonderful experience than being Dylans mom.

Thanksgiving

It's that time of year again! Colder weather, twinkling lights, strands of garland all through the town and grungy old men dressed up as Ol' St. Nick. No...seriously.

Okay lets back up a bit though. This was not only our last Thanksgiving in Germany, but also one of the last times we had our whole group together. Everyone is parting ways this year, and half of them will be gone within a month! So we made it special. Everyone came over and helped cook, play games, drink plenty of gluhwein and eat their weight in Thanksgiving food. I think I can speak for everyone when I say it was a blast! I am so incredibly thankful for the friends I have made here that turned into family, all our wonderful memories together and for reunions I hope to have in the future. Also for the fact that my husband was able to spend it with us this year, as he has and always will miss his fair share of holidays.

The day after Thanksgiving we got up early, took Dylan and Moose to baby sitters, and took a road trip up to Holland with our friends for an amazing Christmas Market! This market was held inside a huge cave structure held under the city and castle of Valkenburg. It used to be a hideout and medical center for US and allied soldiers during WW2. Many soldiers drew murals on the cave walls and signed their names, so it was awesome to have that American history at such a beautiful place in Europe.
The caves were all decked out in lights and displays of santa with his elves, and there were different venders set up with different products they were selling. Mostly Christmas items but there were also other things like winter clothes, candles, even swiss knives and kitchen ware. Chad and I got some awesome wool gloves that can be finger gloves, or fold down into mittens. They are REALLY warm though which is a must here in the winter! We also got some Christmas tea light nick nacks, sausage and candies. Then we had dinner on the main street that the caves run under. It did rain most of the day, but it wasn't enough to bring us down! We left Valkenburg and drove back into Germany to make a stop in Aachen, for their martket as well. This was a really pretty city and is home to the oldest church in northern Europe. Here we got ornaments for our tree, a gluhwein (hot wine, sort of like cider) mug, a flickering christmas decoration and also stopped for a famous german Crepe with nutella. Delicious!
We're greatful to have such awesome friends to have shared this day with! It was a great time and we love new experiences. We lugged all our loot to the car and headed home just in time to pick up Dylan and Moose.

Needless to say we all slept in today, and were able to get up as a family and eat breakfast in good spirits! We busted out the Christmas decorations and started going to town on our home. Our tree is lookin a little shaggy but its still good for our smaller on base home. Next year we'll definitely be upgrading. I love getting out the oranments we've collected so far from different cities and can't wait to add to our collection this season!

We still have a few things to hang up and set out, but its all coming together! I love decorating for the holidays. We plan to spend the rest of the day hanging out as a famiy and enjoying the left overs from Thanksgiving. Next stop, Christmas.
I got this at the Valkenburg market. Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus hand carved from a peice of wood. Pretty good find!

Dylan watched daddy set up the tree, he wasnt interested in helping lol.
Out with the leaves, in with the snowflakes and snowman friends!!
Merry winter!

Fall update

This past month has been one for the books! Chad and I went to our first Oktoberfest, which I will also say, will be our only Oktoberfest! It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. Some advice for any one in Germany going next year - go during the week! We made the mistake of going on a Saturday, but it was an experience and at least we can say we've been there! We had some beautiful weather in October and were able to enjoy pumpkin and wine festivals, quality family time and nights out with out friends. We also got Dylan completely potty trained! huge accomplishment for us, I was not expecting him to do as well as he did with it.

Dylan went trick or treating dressed as Woody, and his friend Xander dressed as Buzz! He did great saying trick or treat and thank you at every house. Its amazing how much he is learning right now, I never want him to grow out of this stage!! Everyday he says something new that shocks me. This is going to be his first year playing in the snow, we are really excited to take him sledding! It wont be long now until Germays grounds are white. We went through his room and got rid of all his baby toys and donated a bunch of his clothes that dont fit him anymore. Now when Christmas comes around we will actually have room for new stuff.

We have just about 10 months left in Germany and are trying to soak up as much of it as we can. Although we are ready to be back in the states, I'm definitely going to miss this place! The past two years have been an awesome experience and we've seen more than most people see in a lifetime. We feel truly blessed!

We are starting off the holiday season with crhsitmas shopping, thanksgiving with our Germany family, and a day trip up to the Netherlands. Cant wait for all the exciting things to come!

Mommy Dylan Time

Since returning from Barcelona last week, we have been pretty busy. When I didnt have the baby I watch a few times a week, we were out running errands or hanging out with our friends. Yesterday was the first day since before our trip that it was just me and Dylan, so we took advantage of our day and spent some mommy son time!

We started the morning with a little house cleaning, this is where you usually find him while I am doing that.

Then after a nice lunch we headed out for a walk with Moose. They both love to go for walks, especially together.

Moose was being a chicken because another dog was barking at him, so Dylan started to lead the way.

A slide, score!
Dylan enjoyed playing on the slide...
While Moose enjoyed other things
Then we ended up at the big payground for a while
Even Moose loves the playground.
Since there was no one at the playground, Dylan played with Moose. But they had a blast! Moose loves to run around the equipment and chase Dylan, he even went down the slide a few times. He loves his brother.

Then it was home for a nap and dinner!
After dinner, Dylan was kind enough to help mommy bake some brownies! He had fun doing it, and licking the bowl. Im confident he wont get salmonella.

Then it was time for a bath and movie before bed. I even let him stay up later to watch his movie. Mostly because I wanted to sleep in the next morning, but he doesn't know that.
Okay, I had to throw this picture in here because it is HILARIOUS. It looks like Moose is about to eat Dylans face off. He was resting his head in Dylans lap, like the picture before, Dylan shoved his head off of him because he is mean, and Moose shook his head in response. This is the picture I got. So funny.

Anyways, this next month is busy and filled with a lot of exciting things. We are going to the big wine festival in Bad Durkheim this week, as well as the annual Ramstein Bazaar. Then its the pumpkin festival in Hitchershoff which is supposed to be the best around, everyone raves about it. Chads birthday is the weekend after, and we are hoping to spend it in Munich for Octoberfest. Lots of fun fall festivites coming our way, the fall and winter season in Germany is a ton of fun. This is the first year I have actually looked forward to the colder weather, and now it is our last. I will definitely miss it here. Until next time,
Auf Wiedersehen!

August 2012

Unfortunately blogging has become last on my list of things to get done lately. Three months have gone by since my last post and I cant help but wonder where the time has gone. This year is moving eerily fast, and doesn't show any signs of stopping.

This month is the 2 year anniversary of Chad and I's marriage. Two years married, two years in Germany, two years of trying to get our lives going. After these long two years, our on base apartment is finally feeling like a home, and we are becomming a stronger family. Chad is in the process of changing careers and going into dog handling. Even though this means having him gone a lot, and more dangerous deployments, I couldn't be more proud of him for steering his life in the direction he wants it to go.

The past 3 months have been filled with a lot of friend and family time, play dates, date nights, and nights out with my favorite girls. I said goodbye to a very close friend, and welcomed in a new love, our puppy Moose. Next week we are leaving to spend 5 days in Barcelona, Spain, no better way to spend our anniversary!

We are entering our final year here in Europe, and plan to make it special. We have a lot of traveling and sight seeing planned, will be taking advantage of all the Christmas markets and villiage festivities, and hope to make Dylans first home one to remember. Seeing how fast the first two years went, I cant believe we only have one left. Here are just a few pictures taken in the past 3 months.
