Dylan turns 3

Today was a big day in our house, because our one and only kiddo turned 3 years old! Its hard to believe how quickly the time has passed, you never realize how short life is until you become a parent. Since most of Dylans friends have either PCS'd back stateside, or arent in his age group, we decided against a party this year. It was too difficult trying to plan activites for a group of kids with such diverse ages, and I didnt want Dylan left out of any of the games at his own party, so instead we opted for a day of fun with just us. Of course I had to get a "last 2 year old picture" in before bed time the night before.

Excuse me while I go and grab a tissue. In the morning when he woke up he hung out in bed with mommy and daddy for a while before we got up and made a big breakfast for him. His favorite - pancakes! Dylan can usually eat his weight in pancakes and sausage, he does not mess around when it comes to breakfast.
Then daddy took him to play at a big indoor play land, while I stayed home and baked him a quick cake and got his presents set up for when he came home. He always has a ton of fun going, especially with his daddy, who has just as much fun as he does! They didnt take the camera with them so I dont have pictures of them playing together, but i did manage to catch one before they walked out the door. You'll notice throughout the blog that Dylan has a hard time keeping his eyes open when the flash goes off. By the time they got back he was exhausted, but he woke right up when he saw all his presents. I dont think he gets why he got gifts, but he got them and thats all he cared about!

I wish I could show all of his gifts because they are all awesome, but there just isnt enough room or patience for that! This site can be difficult when dealing with pictures. Later on after he rested, he had a couple of friends help sing happy birthday to him and have some cake and ice cream.

Chad and I also started a new tradition, instead of giving him a birthday card, we got him a new book and wrote our messages to him on the inside with the age he was turning. Cant wait to do this every year and watch our love grow with his age! I have always been a literature junky, and he loves reading, so we thought this was a great way for him to not only have a book collection that grows with him, but to always be reminded of how much he means to us.

Needless to say Dylan had a great birthday, and even though he couldnt have everyone he loves here with him to celebrate, he still felt love from everyone who sent it! Dylan is very blessed to have so many people who love and care for him even though he is countries away. He says thank you to each and every person who wished him a happy birthday! And so do Chad and I!

Happy Birthday Dylan!!
